Goals.
We spoke previously about elements of critical thinking and one of the point we mentioned was goal(s). It may be easy to predict others predominant thought by the goal they pursue. Goal oriented people evaluate everything they think, say or do in the light of the goals they set for themselves. Virtually everything they think is in favor of how they can accomplish their goals. Goals enrich our life's and makes us healthy or rich or both.
Zig Ziglar, a great motivational speaker once said it is high time we stopped being a wandering generality and become a meaningful specific. However with all these shouts for goals and its accomplishments, why is it that many people do not have goals? Here are some reasons:
(1) they don't desire or belief in change;
(2) they blame other people for events in their lifes;
(3) low self esteem can make some people to loose confidence in their capability to change their state;
(4) they grow up in environment(s) where goal setting is not taken seriously, hence they also do not belief in goals;
(5) according to Brian Tracy, people don't set goals because they don't know how. He said if you know how to set goals down cold, you are either very healthy or very rich or both;
(6) according to Jim Collins and Jerry Poras, they said people do set goals but they don't set Big Harry Audacious Goals (BHAGs). BHAGs are greals goals that are both intimidation and interesting that if accomplished will literarily change our life. They said we don't have BHAGs for two reasons:
(a) fear of rejection or criticism;
(b) fear of failure.
Ziglar defines fear as False Evidence Appearing Real. Therefore next time you are faced with many reasons why you should not set those life transforming goals you should realize that they are not real and just fear. Never succomb.
