Goals part I

According to Brian Tracy, only 1%of every population knows how to set goals. Equally true is the fact that those 1% are wealthy and more financially independent than the the remaining 99% put together. Then if this is true, there must be some secrets laws, modus operandi or principles that these people has that the remaining population don't have access to. These laws are as follows:
(1) The laws of fitness : your goals and your deepest beliefs or conviction must align. For you to be motivated and keep going when the going get tough. Your values and your goals must be congruent. Else you will be discouraged. As it is for individuals so it is for businesses, organizations or nations.
(2) Domain of expertise: you should set goals in the areas where it is easy for you to attain victory, greatness or excellence without much help or no help from people. These area of your natural dominance are where your skills should be developed more to perfection. Your area of expertise is mostly areas where you enjoy to invest your resources, your time, efforts etc. It is your area of interest. Brian Tracy said, you rarely love what you do until you are good at it. Therefore for you to love what you do you must develop your natural strength such that you become naturally good or best in the world at what you do then interest will naturally follows.
(3) The law of acres of diamond: acres of diamond was a popular message given by a minister called Russell Cornwell. It was a story of an African farmer who heard about the fortunes of some farmers obtained from the sale of diamond they had from their farms from a traveling merchant. Motivated by this story, he decided to sell all his properties and headed for the interior part of Africa in search of diamonds. After a lot of unsuccessful search, he ran out of money and supplies and was depressed. He committed suicide as a result of this depression. Back to his home, another farmer went to feed his Donkey and picked up a stone which glittered at him. He kept it at his farm shed and never bordered about it until the same traveling merchant who told the previous farmer about the diamonds was traveling back and decided to pass the night. Upon seeing this stone, he inquired if the previous farmer is back from his quest for diamonds. The new farmer replied no, he said the previous farmer has not been seen since then. He then told the new farmer that that stone is diamond. The new farmer argued but the merchant insisted that he should take him to where he picked up the stone. Diamonds don't look like it until they are processed he said. On getting there they saw many unprocessed diamonds stones. Here is the moral of the story, the old farmer went in search of diamonds not realizing that they were right under his feet. Likewise, elder said, your acres of diamonds likely lie under your very own feet. But they are concealed as hard work. It may be concealed in your own talents, your education, your background, interest and experience, your family, industry, even phone contacts! We need to do what we can with what we have right where we are.... Theodore Roosevelt.
(4) The principle of balance: there are six areas of our life that we need to invest our resources (time, efforts, money etc) on in order for us to be a wholistic or complete man. They are:
(a) family and relationship aspect;
(b) physical and health aspect;
(c) mental and intellectual aspect;
(d) career and work aspect;
(d) financial and material aspects;
(6) spiritual aspects;
We need to set at least one goal in each of these aspects/area of life. We must recognize that these goals are interdependent and failure or success in one area may likely affect other areas. We need a little balance in all areas.
(5) The law of predominant purpose: we noted in the last principle that we need balance in all the areas of our life but we also need to identify our major purpose on earth. This is the reason you belief God put you here on earth. For Usain Bolt, he said God placed me on this planet to run. Your major purpose is your number one goal. The accomplishment of that major goal will be more important to you than many others. Often this particular goal can be categorized under career and work aspects of life. According to Brian Tracy, failure of a person to choose an overarching, dominant or major goal is the primary reason for diffusion of efforts, wastage of time and other resources and ultimately the inability to make progress. As said earlier, this dominant goal helps you to achieve other goals. Sometimes we may not know which of this aspects of life we should focus on to produce the dominant goal that can liberate others especially when things are not working. At such times, prayers to the Almighty may be necessary.
