Obstacles to help(s)
Obstacles exists to any worthwhile pursuit or goal. They are resistances that if not in existence, attainment of goal(s) becomes easy or possible. Resistance may be from persons or group of people who benefits or exploits the present status of the person in need of your help, it may be from people who think they should also receive help from you but are out of your budgeted resources, it may be from the person himself!
We study and learn from history. Those who don't learn from it are bound to repeat it. One of the globally recognized history book (which is also religious) you and I can easily lay our hands on is the holy bible. So kindly permit me to use one event documented therein as an example. Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me: and I have seen the oppresion wherewith the Egyptians oppress them (Exodus 3:9 KJV). Israelites were in Egypt under forced labour and their cry were registered in heaven before God. From this verse we can see that our God not only listen to all cries but also verify or validates the authenticity of cries. He said He has seen it Himself that they were under oppresion. He raised Moses to help and deliver the children of Israel from bondage. But what happened next? The task master will not let them go. Instead increased their burden (Exodus 5:7-21). The only way God could rescue them was by showing them His might. So sometimes when you want to help some people you must be ready to flex your muscles and remove all obstacles or enemies.
The world is powered by a belief called WIIFM (what is in it for me). No single person live in a vacuum, we are interconnected in some way and for any change to happen, there will always be a form of transformation in one link or the other. When some see any help on the way for somebody, they come to see how it will also benefit them. If they cannot find one, they will make the medium through which such help is chanelled to the individual difficult (just to make it pass through them so that they will get 'something') or impossible. This can be overcome through your determination and doggedness.
Have you turned down an offer before? The elder asked me. Yes, I replied. A friend wanted to give me a pen but have earlier publicly humiliated me. Tell me other reasons why you may turn down an offer, he asked.
(2) Liability/burden: when someone avoids me because he sees me as a liability or burden;
(3) Integrity question: if the person who want to render help is publicly confirmed as evil.
Correct and I support all your reasons, elder noted. But there are also negative reasons why people suffer via rejecting help:
(a) Pride: we must be careful here. Sometimes people turned down an offer not because they are proud but because such an act will injured their self esteem and may make them think unduly why life is unfair. But when someone who is higher than you in any regard, be it by age, marital status, qualification etc. offer you help, turning it down is pride. This can be overcomed by education.
(2) Ignorance: some people may not be aware that they are under bondage or needed help. So many kind gesture is ignarantly turned down. This is one of the greatest challenge or problem facing human race. This can be overcomed by educating the oppressed and by prayers. I always pray to God In the light of one bible verse (Hosea 4:6): open my eyes oh God that I may know the challenges or problems I am silently facing or preventing me from greatness.
The previous reasons you mentioned can be averted by reflection on the part of him that want to render help. Anyone intending to offer help (even if you don't intend) should live a life worthy of emulation.
Here are only few reasons I can lay my hands on. Give me your reasons in the comment section.
Till next time when we shall be reading a fresh episode, always rule your world.
Thank you.
