Helps

Help is simply the act of rendering assistance to someone in need. It is rendering support or doing for someone what he cannot do to get out of a predicament. 
It is not the giving of an assistance that will not completely solve the problem in the long term. Long term solution may also have a short term palliative. But any help that will not proffer a complete long term solution to a need is not a help, the elder told me. What happens or what is the fate of the man in the interim, before the long term help materialize? I asked the elder. I think you are talking about lack of basic supplies like food or shelter, the elder responded. True there are some imminent and urgent help that people need in order to stay afloat in life's storm. But most of them are as a result of long term view in strategic thinking, goal setting, plans, and actions by the individual in question. But let's leave the cause of such issue or quandary. Let's focus on how to solve or alleviate the affect or its effects on the fellow and also to create a better future.
To do this, the motive by which a help is rendered should be x-rayed. Many only think of helping when they have something to gain in return. Some render help as a means of investment or insurance: 'let me do this or that so that when he becomes great, he will remember me'. A noble and most laudable motive is when you render help because you want to make a difference without expecting anything in return, when you give all for heavenly applause not to be seen or praised by men. It is surprising that though the last sect of people only expect praise from God, (and do not mind the pain or price they pay in getting the help materialize) they equally reap all other rewards the first two yearns for.
If indeed you are intentional about giving anyone help(s), first consider the extent of the plight and the likely consequences such tend to produce in his life. If a person lack basic supplies such as food, he may steal or become a slot in order to pacify that. Even with that lack of basic supplies, some will still not do unethical things to gain temporary releif(s) based in their religious views or their value system.
Equally worth to consider is the amount of resources at your disposal to be channeled into that course. Resources at your disposal may be tangible or intangible. Tangible ones may include: money, books, clothes etc. Intangible ones may include: ideas, jobs that brings income, network of friends that can yield jobs, mindset to render help(s) etc.
Critical evaluation of these two factors: (a) work to be done ie. issue at hand, (b) resources at your disposal to get the work done is necessary. This evaluation will help you judge correctly how much to budget for short and long term ventures / effort in getting the envisioned help appropriately and fruitfully executed.
How will you handle people's opinion about your involvement especially when they are not obvious? I asked. Do you help because you want praise from men or to please God? God, I responded. Good, why should you then worry about their opinion? People will always be whom they have chosen to be. No matter what you do, you cannot please everyone. Besides some help(s) cannot be rendered by the faint-hearted or the weak. You need to be a giant (financially, emotionally, mentally etc.) before some thresholds can be overcome, else your effort will be wasted. That is the more reason why you need to work on yourself in order to build or aquire the necessary resilience or stamina necessary to compel changes the individual in question requires and that is why the holly book writes... the creation waited earnestly for the manifestation of the children of God. Some people may die in pain, destitution or lack if you fail to manifest. Don't forget some individuals are happy or exploiting the situation those in need of your help are. 
People are only remembered for the problem they caused or those they solved; so also are those who render help or failed to do so. Essentially, posterity or God will never forget them. The question is who is that man or woman that needs your help? Will it be chronicled in your biography or anals of history that while you had the power, time, might and breath you did all it takes to get him or her out of quandary?

Food is edible substance(s) that human eats for growth and or sound health. There are seven basic classes of food namely: dietary fibre, carbohydrates, protein, fat, vitamins, water, minerals.
