Pride and self esteem
Welcome.
There are few things that are difficult to differentiate, pride and great self esteem are good examples says the elder. Self esteem is defined as the confidence in once ability or capacity to think or the confidence in your capacity to face life challenges. Whereas, it is easy to know proud people who will reject money or gifts even when they are dying in penury. You know people who cling to their ways even when they are bad, majorly because they treasured their ways or have been like that for a long time. Obsession in once lifestyle even when the lifestyle is nothing to be written home about. These are all examples of pride, elder told me.
What if the life the proud man celebrates is working? What if the habbit(s) the proud man treasures has always won him medals or saved him from trouble I asked. Good question the elder replied. Pride and great self esteem are two sides of a coin! Every successful man has some element of pride that he or she manages to get the work done. The only problem that arise is when pride is given full blown freedom ie. when it is not managed. Then it becomes what is called narcissism. Then it will not and cannot stand or celebrate the success and admiration of others.
Obsession with oneself as earlier pointed out is pride. There are some less known manifestation of pride. Benjamin Franklin once said if you ever reached the point of becoming humble, you might find yourself wanting to boast about how meek you are. Foolish people are equally proud, they are proud because they don't care to commit and apply the knowledge they have.
What makes some poor people poor is erroneous self obsession.
Now you can see similarity between pride and self esteem. Both have conviction in their abilities but as soon as such cannot be managed, it becomes pride.
Do well to join me next time when we shall see some features of pride.
