Features of Pride
Welcome.
The first features of pride is what the alcoholics called 'separation from'. Separation from what, Elder asked me. Separation from people I guess. Not really, separation from reality. Reality is the truth or facts concerning a particular situation or event. Examples of such are:
(1) avoiding people we know will tell us the truth,
(2) stonewalling or rejecting feedbacks,
(3) focusing on what we love doing for pleasure such as social media, instead of what will make us or transform us to become a leader,
(4)not taking time to evaluate and assess the result we produce,
(5) not understanding who we are,
(6) not understanding the world around us.
Why do we separate from reality? Here are some reasons :
(a) habits,
(b) emotional attachment(s): we have received the praises or accolades from people who are like us or worse for negative habits or we have benefited or still benefiting from such negative lifestyle,
(c) lack of understanding of what we tend to gain if we loose the present benefit(s) attached to the present proud status,
(d) fear of people's opinion,
(e) we don't want to be laughed at,
(f) we don't want to be under the control or influence of others,
(g) experience: past success or failure,
(h) dispair (or discouragement): when we have tried (though not consciously with all our might) to overcome some negative habits without success.
Separation from realities can wreak havoc on our life's if conscious thoughts and actions are not put in place to address it. As such periods if we fail to check pride, we usually ascribe results of our action or inactions to other phenomena.
Essentially, series of diligently executed life choices or disciplines helps us to break free from most bondages that are placed on us by pride.
