Career talk

If a high school student approach you for an advice about which career is the best to embark on as a life profession, what will your answer be? A mechanical engineer, medical doctor, lawyer, journalist? Which of these is the best? In my opinion the question is hard to answer. What is the yardstick for measuring best? Even if the best is defined or seen in the light of which profession gives highest financial returns. If we should see best as the profession that gives rest of mind in terms of job security, we will still also have serious debate.
If we are to define best in terms of job security, then we think of jobs with little or no problems.
However, an elder told me that most career problems have their roots in personality issues. The first on our list is hubris. Hubris is the excessive pride or the pride that destroys a great man. If great men are destroyed by hubris, what happens to mere men? Be careful about pride, an elder told me because proud people don't realize they are proud. They only have 'more than enough reasons' for their haughty actions or in-actions. But the answer I am still eagerly waiting from the elder is : when does a good self esteem becomes pride?
Be sure to be here next week to hear his reply.
